Digital Citizenship: Final Refection

In general, I learned a lot in this course. Despite being such an extensive course, I learned enough about each subject to have a generalized concept of digital citizenship. But, bullying and cyberbullying is an issue that interests me a lot. This is my forth year as a teacher, and in previous years I had never had bullying problems. Upon entering the subject, I realized the ignorance that most teachers have concerning bullying and cyberbullying. In my classroom and in general throughout the school, we frequently have behavioral problems. Many of which are not bullying and I categorized them as such. In our school, apparently, we do not have cyberbullying problems. Perhaps, as statistics indicate, students affected by bullying often do not report it to their parents, teachers, or to an adult they trust.

My most significant achievement in this course was experimenting with different software programs to create animated videos. It was a great challenge for me, mainly because it takes a long time to learn various techniques.

The primary challenge I found to complete this course was the immense amount of readings apparently due to a certain degree of dyslexia when I read in English. I do not know if it’s because of my age, or because of the language, or because of both that I read very slowly and take me a long time to understand.

My best work in this course was the mantra of digital citizenship. I never thought that something that seems so simple to do consumes so much time to achieve the desired objective.

As I said before, I learned a little about the various topics studied, and I learned a lot from some specific issues. In general, I believe that immersing myself in these subjects of digital citizenship; this has made me a better citizen in all aspects. There is no doubt that knowledge is power, and it is up to one how to use that power inside or outside the classroom.

I think the most significant thing I learned in this course was, without a doubt, as I expressed earlier, being a better citizen in both traditional and digital senses. I learned a lot about copyright and netiquette. And I think that when I apply what I learned in these courses to my daily life, it will make me a better citizen.

Undoubtedly, my new knowledge acquired in relation to netiquette, bullying and cyberbullying, among other topics, will help me to continue growing as an educator and leader in my community.

My favorite aspect of this course and of any course in which I participate without any doubt is to learn. For example, I start studying about a particular topic, and I finish informing myself about other issues that have nothing to do with the subject in question. Unfortunately, this takes away a lot of time that I should devote to my studies, but it is something I cannot avoid it.

They say that everyone is full of opinions and willing to advise anyone who requests it, in this sense, I try as much as possible not to advise unless I am asked fof it. But more than suggesting to other students, I think the suggestion would be for me. And that would be to concentrate on the subject and not get distracted by the videos and readings that spring up on the Internet along with the topics that interest us.

I think the course is perfect as it is. And more than changing something, I would suggest less reading because in this particular course there were too many to be adequately assimilated in such a short time, especially by students like me.

I am sure I could give my friends a lecture about this course, and when they listen to my eloquence on the subject matter, they will be undoubtedly interested in taking it themselves.
